YES WE ARE OPEN
63 years ago, Hawai'i became the 50th state of the United States of America. What Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole started in 1919 with his first Statehood Bill, started other bills later in 1935, 1947 and 1950. Not only did Congress pass the Hawaii Admission Act in 1959, 94% of Hawaiian residents voted in support of statehood. Officially on August 21, 1959, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the proclamation making Hawai'i the 50th state. The first celebration wasn't until 10 years later in 1969.
