Statehood bills for Hawaii was originally introduced in 1919 by Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole. Additional bills were introduce in 1935, 1947, and 1950. It wasn't until 1959 that the U.S. Congress approved the Statehood Bill for Hawai'i. After a 94% resident vote for supporting statehood, President Eisenhower signed a proclamation making Hawai'i the 50th state.
